Ranchi
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Ranchi is the capital city of Jharkhand state, India. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar. Jharkhand was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the districts of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas divisions of Bihar. As a part of Bihar, it used to be the summer capital from the time of the British Raj because of its cool climate. According to the current approximations, the population of the city is about 1,500,000 inhabitants. The city has seen a sudden surge in population after the declaration of the new state of Jharkand in 2000. As of 2001 India census, Ranchi had a population of 846,454 inhabitants. The males constitute 53 percent of the population and females 47 percent. Ranchi has an average literacy rate of 74 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, male literacy is 80 percent, and female literacy is 68 percent. In Ranchi, 13 percent of the population is under 6 years of age. The city as well as its immediate hinterland is endowed with several scenic spots, such as Lodh Falls. Ranchi has a salubrious climate. Ranchi has a good a network of government and privately run schools, although standard of teaching considerably vary from school to school. The tourist attractions in city are Temples Rajrappa Mandir About 65 kilometers from Ranchi for the worship of Goddess Kali, known as Chhinnamasta.
