Raichur
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Raichur, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, is the capital of the Raichur district, an administrative district in the state of Karnataka in India. It is located 409 kilometers from the state capital, Bangalore. Raichur has acquired a rich history over the centuries, having became a part of various empires, such the Mauryas, Chalukyas, Bahmanis, Vijayanagara and the Mughal kings. Raichur is famous for its imposing Raichur Fort. Here stone inscriptions have been found in Persian and Arabic languages which belonged to the bastion of the fort and refers to its construction in 1294. Among the ruins of the immense fort are many tanks and old temples. Anegundi, 135 kilometers from Raichur, has some splendid temples from the Vijayanagar era such as the Ranganatha Temple and the Huchchappayana Matha. The Pampa Sarovara, the Kamal Mahal and Nava Brindavana entomb the mortal remains of famous saints.
