Porbandar
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Porbandar pronunciation is a coastal city in the Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. It is the administrative center of Porbandar District. The name Porbandar came from the combination of two words Porai, the name of a local goddess, and Bandar means port or harbour. Thus, Porbandar translates to Porai's harbour. The places of interest include Kirti Mandir Birthplace of Gandhi, Sudama Mandir, Nehru Planetarium, Bharat Mandir, Gita Mandir, Rokhadia Hanuman temple, Sandipani Vidhya Niketan. As of 2001 India census, Porbandar had a population of 133,083 inhabitants. The males constitute 51 percent of the population and females 49 percent. Porbandar has an average literacy rate of 73 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, male literacy is 79 percent, and female literacy is 67 percent. In Porbandar, 11 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
