Amravati




India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India.
 
Amravati also known as Amrawati or Amraoti is a city in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is believed to be the city of lord Indra, the king of all gods. It has very historical temples of Goddess Ambadevi and Mahanubhava's Lord ShriKrishna Temple. It has an average elevation of 343 metres. It lies 156 kilometers west of Nagpur and serves as the administrative center of Amravati District and of Amravati Division.
 
As of 2001 India census, Amravati had a population of 549,370. Males constitute 52 percent of the population and females 48 percent. Amravati has an average literacy rate of 79 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent; with 54 percent of the males and 46 percent of females literate. 12 percent of the population is under 6 years of age. As with so many other small cities in India, Amravati is growing rapidly in terms of living quality. New flyovers and roads are being built to renovate the city, and other improvements like new traffic signals are underway.
 
Amravati is a growing industrial center, with cotton mills as an important industry. Amravati has emerged as an educational center offering many programs including medical and engineering courses. In addition to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati is also known for the famous Physical Education Institution, the Hamuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal popularly known as HVPM founded by Late Dr. Shivajirao Patwardhan. Amravati is also home for popular Hindi-cinema film distributors. Many of them have offices near Jai-Stambh, essentially the midpoint of the city. The city has lots of millionaires, most of them movie distributors and textile mill owners. Since it is located centrally in the country, Amravati has remained one of the most important commercial cities.
 
Though Amravati is improving it still has a long way to go to become one of the dominant cities in the state. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Amravati enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
