Okayama
Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is located in the Pacific Ocean it lies to the east of China, Korea, and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. Its capital and largest city is Tokyo. It has the world's 10th largest population. It is world's largest international creditor and is the sixth largest exporter and importer and is a member of the United Nations. And it is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research, technology, machinery, and medical research with the world's third largest budget for research and development. Okayama is the capital city of Okayama region in the Chugoku region of Japan. In 2006, the population of the city was 676,283 and an area of 658.57 square kilometers. The city was founded on June 1, 1889. The city is known as the site of the Korakuen Garden and the striking black Okayama Castle which is a modern reconstruction. The popular Japanese folktale of Momotaro may have originated there. Okayama is one of few Japanese cities to have kept an operational tram system. After the merger of March 22, 2005, Okayama is scheduled to become a designated city somewhere around in the 2000s.
