Atsugi
Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is located in the Pacific Ocean it lies to the east of China, Korea, and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. Its capital and largest city is Tokyo. It has the world's 10th largest population. It is world's largest international creditor and is the sixth largest exporter and importer and is a member of the United Nations. And it is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research, technology, machinery, and medical research with the world's third largest budget for research and development. Atsugi is a city located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 221,226 and a population density of 2,357.73 persons per square kilometers. The total area is 93.83 square kilometers. The city gained city status on February 1, 1955. Within Japan, Atsugi is mainly known as a satellite city for the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area. It is also associated with the United States Navy base at NAF, the Naval Air Facility Atsugi, which is actually not in Atsugi, but straddles the border between the nearby cities of Ayase and Yamato. The airbase at Atsugi is where U.S. occupying forces first landed on mainland Japan, on August 28, 1945, following the end of World War II.
The city’s tourist attractions are Iiyama Kannon, the Chokokuji temple, Iiyama Spa and Nanasawa Spa. Other Institutions such as Aoyama Gakuin University, NTT Basic Research Laboratories and Nissan Technical Center are also located there.
