Daltonganj
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Daltonganj is the headquarters of Palamu commissionary in the state of Jharkhand in India. Three districts namely Palamau,Garhwa,Latehar come under this commissionary. It is situated on the banks of the river North Koel, the town is named after Col Dalton, a commissioner of Chota nagpur during the British raj. It is 825 kilometers south east of New Delhi and is accessible by train from Patna, Ranchi, Calcutta, Delhi and Gaya. The nearest airport is at Ranchi. Daltongunj is well connected with Ranchi,Patna,Gaya by road. The famous Palamau National Park, known for its wild life is located nearby. The park is spread over a core area of 250 square kilometers. The area is rich in flora and fauna but also prone to severe droughts. The Palamau National Park was brought under Project Tiger in the year 1973 and is among the original Tiger Reserves of India. Sal and Bamboo are the main vegetation. The tourists can drive through dense patches of Sal and Bamboo in the park. A guide and jeep can be hired from the forest department. Watch towers are there to observe the wildlife in relative safety.There are tree houses which can be rented out for stay and food arrangement is also there. Daltonganj is known for its cultural diversity. People in Daltonganj celebrate all the festivals with utmost devotion. The area of Daltonganj is well isolated from the communal society and the people living here are more prone to brotherhood. The main festivals that are celebrated here are Holi, Deepawali, Durgapuja, Chhathh, Id-ul-Zoha, Ram Navmi, Muharram, etc. It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
