India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. Jamnagar is one of the famous cities in India. Jamnagar is a city and a municipal corporation in Jamnagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The city was built up substantially by Maharaja Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji in the 1920s, when the district was known as Nawanagar. It has an average elevation of 20 metres. The district lies just to the south of the Gulf of Kutch. Jamnagar has shot to prominence as Reliance Industries, India's largest private company, established the world's largest refinery near Moti Khavdi village. It is also home to Essar Oil, another important oil refinery of India.
 
As of 2001 India census, Jamnagar had a population of 447,734 inhabitants. The males constitute 53 percent of the population and females 47 percent. Jamnagar has an average literacy rate of 70 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, male literacy is 75 percent, and female literacy is 63 percent. In Jamnagar, 12 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
