Bhopal
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Bhopal is a city in central India. It is the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and the administrative headquarters of Bhopal District and Bhopal Division. Historically, Bhopal was also the name of a Muslim princely state in central India. Bhopal is said to have been founded by the Parmara King Bhoj, who had his capital at Dhar. The city was originally known as Bhojpal named after Bhoj and the dam that he is said to have constructed to form the lakes surrounding Bhopal. The population consists of 56 percent Hindus and 38 percent Muslims, with the rest of the population including Christians, Sikhs, Jains, and, Buddhists. However, the demographics of Bhopal district are slightly different with 69 percent Hindus and 24 percent Muslims. The old city of Bhopal is a predominantly Muslim area, but New Bhopal is a demographically cosmopolitan area. Bhopal is also known to have a large Yusufzai Pathan population.
