Guntur
India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India. Guntur is a city and a municipal corporation in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located around 1000 miles to the south of capital New Delhi. The city has an estimated population of around 800,000 inhabitants, one of the larger cities in the country. It is a center for learning and is the administrative center and capital of Guntur District. It is the home of the famous Amaravati and Ancient Sitanagaram rich in history, culture and heritage. It has an average elevation of 33 metres, situated on the plains. There are few hills in the surrounding suburban areas. The city is located around 40 miles north of Bay of Bengal on the east coast of India. Guntur Region and district are surrounded by the Krishna Delta. As of 2001 India census, Guntur had a population of 514,707 inhabitants. Males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent. Guntur has an average literacy rate of 68 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, male literacy is 74 percent, and female literacy is 62 percent In Guntur, 11 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
